Reading & Spelling Tutoring
Research-based, multisensory tutoring, tailored to your child!
Tutoring Programs for Reading and Spelling
We currently utilize the All About® Learning Press program for reading and spelling. This program includes research-based multisensory instruction. The program is mastery-based, ensuring no gaps in learning.
Our newest curriculum is from the Connect to Comprehension Reading program, used for students 3rd grade and up. This program is composed of 6 skill-based levels and includes instruction and practice in the 5 basic components of reading:
Phonemic Awareness
Phonics
Fluency
Vocabulary
Comprehension
as well as oral language, and written expression.
We are expanding! In the near future we plan to offer programs that will focus on other subject areas including writing and math!
What to expect at your first session
At your first session, you can expect to meet your child’s tutor. We encourage our tutors to start with a “Get to Know You” game or activity so your child has the chance to learn a little about who they will be working with and this also gives the tutor a chance to get to know more about your child.
Determining Your Child’s Area(s) of Focus
We will use the information you provide on your intake paperwork to determine the best fit for your child.
A baseline assessment will be given at your first session to determine your child’s current ability level.
Students in 2nd grade & above will be assessed in the following areas:
Phoneme Segmentation
Word Reading
Oral Reading Fluency
For our younger students in 1st grade & below, we will assess on:
Letter Names
Letter Sounds
Multi-Sensory & Brain-Based Activities
We use brain based methods and encourage a multi-sensory approach. Our programs are mastery-based with a strong focus on decodable text that sets our students up for success.
Our Pre-Reading program focuses on
Print Awareness
Phonological Awareness
Letter Knowledge
Listening Comprehension
Our Reading program focuses on
Phonological Awareness
Phonics and Decoding

Our Spelling program also focuses on

Parent Involvement & Updates
Our tutors will monitor progress after every 10th session in order to track student improvement/growth.
A tutoring progress note will be shared at that time to update you on your child’s progress. This note will include learning goals that are specific to your child.
Progress Reports
Do Parents Stay for Sessions?
Parents do not typically stay for tutoring sessions.
We’ve found that most students are more focused/attentive when they are able to work with their tutor 1:1. Some parents drop their child off and come back at the end of the session. Others choose to wait in the waiting room for the duration of the session.
How Many Tutoring Sessions Does My Child Need?
10 sessions is a great place to start, however, keep in mind that in order to see true success, it could take several months.
Research shows that meeting a minimum of 2 times per week for 1:1 structured literacy tutoring is the most beneficial for students, which is why we recommend that method. With that in mind, we know that everyone’s situation is different and we are willing to work with you on what will be the best fit for your child.
We’ve seen amazing results with our students who have chosen to continue beyond the initial 10 sessions!
If you have a younger student, you might consider starting with 30 minute sessions and working up to 45 minutes or an hour. The duration of your session can be tailored to your child’s specific needs.
Billing / Payment
We offer packages of either 8 or 10 sessions to give your child a chance to develop some foundational knowledge and we hope that this will start to build their self-confidence.
We require prepayment in the form of packages. Package options include:
8 sessions at $400
10 sessions at $475
Package invoices will be sent via Quickbooks.
After 10 sessions, you can decide if you’d like to continue with another set of sessions.
Tutoring that’s Tailored to YOUR Child!
For over 5 years, we have been providing tutoring services to students in the Platte City area. We have worked with students ages 4 to 16 years old with a wide range of abilities and needs.
Some students we’ve worked with for a few months and others we’ve worked with for a few years. It’s been amazing to see the progress each child has made during their time with us!
